Prerequisites

CASAC-Trainee applicants must:

Be at least 18 years of age
Have a High School Diploma or GED
Reside in New York State at least 51% of the time.

Prospective students will be required to submit a completed application which includes a 500-word essay (why do I want to become a CASAC counselor) as described on the application. Persons not possessing a college degree will be expected to pass a training readiness screening test. This screening tool is used to test applicants in the areas of grammar, sentence structure and spelling. Applicants must also participate in a pre-admission interview.

If you are pursuing or currently hold an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree, some of the course work associated with your course of study may be claimed toward satisfying some or all of the CASAC education and training requirements. In order to determine what coursework may be applicable, your college transcript(s) should be submitted to NYS OASAS with your application. Please contact us to go over your transcript and get an idea of what courses are needed.
